Free Garden Seeds - Plant a Row for the Hungry

An estimated 30 million Americans, including elderly people and children, go to bed hungry each night or not knowing when their next meal will be. The Garden Writers Association, oldest and largest association of professional garden communicators, hopes to reduce the problem without government programs, tax dollars or red tape.

The staff at Ed Hume Seeds wants to do their part, too. Fill out this form to get a free packet of vegetable seeds. Remember to fill out the form completely and accurately so that we know where to send the seeds.

Most gardeners harvest more than they consume. So here's your chance to help local soup kitchens or food banks. If you are not sure where to donate your excess fruits and vegetables, you can call "Second Harvest" at (206)545-6600 and they will refer you to a qualified relief organization.

NOTE: You can also get free garden seeds, all you need, at Listia 100% free, no credit card to join, no hassle, no catch. You get enough credits when you join to get lots of seeds - I got 18 packs and a digital camera!
Most people start with 450 credits, but this invitation gives you 550 to get more when you start. I'm already in and you can get started by clicking this special link: http://www.listia.com/signup/325144

Buy a Historic Home for $1

I was a Million Dollar Agent for Coldwell Banker.
    My advice to home buyers:
Skip the mortgage, pay cash for an older home
With no mortgage, you can afford lots of upgrades!
Don't let repairs scare you off! You can do most of
them yourself or hire local laid off skilled workers to
do a side job for you. We have had our $500. historic
home for a year now, all the repairs, plumbing, elec,
roof, insulation, were done by us on a bare bones budget.
Now we have a large home, no rent or mortgage payments for the rest of our lives!
Our home appraised at $339,000. Not bad for a little elbow grease.

    Briggs House

The ca. 1906 Briggs House is believed to have been built for the family of Fabius Briggs, Jr. The house has had a colorful history and was mostly recently used for artist studios. It is currently unoccupied and suffering from deferred maintenance and water damage. However, many of the house's beautiful details survive, including paneled wainscotting, elegant central stair, 8 unique tiled mantles, original wood windows and floors.

The house, currently located at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Ashe Ave., must be moved to a new site to save it from demolition. The house will be moved separately from the commercial building to which it is attached. Possible relocation sites have been identified near the existing site. Additional details coming soon.

WeFeedback.org - join a global movement to fight against hunger

Rather than forward this email to all of you,
    I'm posting an excerpt here.

You may have seen it in the news. Global food prices are rising fast.

This could spell disaster for poor families who have to spend 80% of their monthly income on food. WFP is working hard to protect them, especially women and children who are the most vulnerable.

When times are tough, our school meal programmes become even more crucial. We just launched a brand new online platform with a single mission – uniting people like you to help millions of hungry schoolchildren. Take a minute right now to visit WeFeedback!

    Announcing WeFeedback!

We want to end child hunger. But to succeed, we need you, your sister, your boss, your landlady, your dry cleaner… you get the idea!

So we built WeFeedback.org where you can join a global movement while personalizing your fight against hunger. You start with the Feedback Calculator which transforms your favorite food into hope for hungry children. Let’s say you enter “pepperoni pizza,” estimate its cost at $5, increase your serving size to 3, and voila – the calculator tells you that the cost of your pizza will provide meals to 60 hungry children.

Try it out. What did you eat for breakfast this morning? See how many lives it can change!

    The Good News on Malnutrition

There’s plenty of bad news about malnutrition, starting with the fact that one in three children in the developing world faces stunted growth because of it. But there’s good news too.

Here are five reasons to be optimistic about our chances of winning the battle against child malnutrition.

The Rice Bowl Results Are In

Super Bowl 2010’s MVP Drew Brees and Freerice teamed up this year for a very different kind of bowl game. The 2011 Rice Bowl challenged students and sports fans of all ages to see how much rice they could raise in a single week.

The challenge came down to the wire. Drew’s team earned more than 4.5 million grains of rice, but the Students prevailed with an incredible 5,039,070 grains donated. Congratulations to all who participated!.

    Sri Lanka: Forced to Flee

Monsoon rains have battered Sri Lanka for the second time in a month, forcing thousands of families to flee their homes. The floods have severely damaged the upcoming rice harvest – a food lifeline for people across the country.

In response, WFP is on the ground delivering food to 500,000 people.
